The Mississippi Highway Patrol Monday urged caution while traveling on Highway 84 after yet another vehicle accident with injuries.
Officer David A. Smith said a female driver in a Chevrolet HHR was turning west off of Pleasant Ridge Road and didn’t see a black Ford Explorer in the lane. Smith said at least one passenger in the Ford Explorer was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center with “very minor injuries.” The driver of the Chevrolet HHR was “more or less shook up,” he said.
Smith said that incidents like this could be avoided if drivers pay attention and use caution when traveling the roads.
“It’s typical at turn bays like this for people to not be looking,” he said. “There’s no reason why you should turn in front a vehicle like that. You can see for at least a good mile in each direction.”
The accident happened near a private driveway on Highway 84, with vehicles rolling slightly downhill.
Units from the Pleasant Ridge and Calhoun Volunteer Fire Departments responded as did the American Red Cross and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Last week, a similar accident on Highway 84 East claimed the life of 78-year-old Dorothy “Dot” Rustin of Laurel, and sent several others to South Central Regional Medical Center.
