South MS Red Cross Responds to Yazoo City Tornado

Apr 26, 2010

Yazoo City, MS Monday, April 26, 2010—The American Red Cross is providing shelter, food, and comfort to people across Mississippi as they deal with the aftermath of the deadly tornadoes that swept through the area over the weekend. Damage is widespread from the tornadoes that touched down Saturday and thousands of residents are without power. Both the governors of Louisiana and Mississippi have declared States of Emergency for the affected areas.

The South Mississippi Region is aiding in response to the relief efforts. So far, 16 volunteers and staff from across the South Mississippi Region, which includes four chapters, have been deployed. They are assisting in a wide array of services such as providing meals from the Emergency Response Vehicles and distributing supplies to assist families as they try to salvage their belongings.
